Mickie has more than 30 years experience in perioperative leadership roles. She has served in a variety of settings from major academic centers to urban non-profit facilities and inner-city for-profit entities throughout the US.

She has developed and implemented generic perioperative education programs and has an adjunct clinical faculty appointment at Regis University and Loretto Heights Department of Nursing, both in Denver, Colo.

Since joining AORN as a consultant in 2001 her focus has been on assessing and improving patient safety, infection control and operational effectiveness/efficiencies. Clientele ranges from small rural facilities to large academic institutions.

Mickie received her bachelor’s degree in nursing from the University of Rochester and a master’s in nursing administration from the University of Colorado. She has served with the Peace Corps, is active in professional organizations and within her community.
